Admission in Y7
Fort Pitt Grammar School follows the common procedure agreed with all Medway grammar schools and with the Medway Local Authority.
Details
- Information and guidance about the procedure is detailed in the Medway Admissions booklet “Admission to Secondary School – A Guide for Parents”. This is issued to all parents via the Medway primary schools
- Parents expressing a preference for Fort Pitt Grammar School will have ensured their daughters have taken the common Medway Selection Tests.
- Parents must complete the application form (CAF) which is included in the booklet “Admission to Secondary School”.
- Places will be offered to 120 girls who are deemed by the test and review procedures to be of selective ability.
- Places will first be offered to girls having an agreed Statement of Special Education Needs that names Fort Pitt Grammar School as the appropriate school
- Offers and refusals of places will be posted to parents by the Local Authority on behalf of Fort Pitt Grammar School
Oversubscription Criteria
- Girls having a sibling* attending Fort Pitt at the time of application who will still be on the roll of the school at the point of entry. (*Natural sister, step-sister, fostered or adopted child. In each case, where this child also lives in the same household).
- Nearness of home to school, using the shortest, safe walking distance, measured by the Medway Council Geographical Information System
Waiting List/Appeals
The Local Authority will be responsible for holding a waiting list for parents who request their daughter’s name be added and where that parent has ranked Fort Pitt Grammar School higher on the CAF than the school they have been offered.
The waiting list will operate until the end of the autumn term when the new Y7 cohort is admitted.
The Governors will establish and publish arrangements for appeals against non-statutory admission, including an Independent Statutory Appeals Panel.
Admissions in Y8, Y9, Y10 and Y11
- Individual girls will be admitted into Years 8-11 if there is a vacant place in the relevant group.
- Fort Pitt Grammar School will use tests to assess these admissions if qualifying selection test results are not available.
Admission in Y12
- Places are available to girls only. There will be up to 25 places available to students new to the school.
- A minimum of 5 A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics will be required. B grades at GCSE will be required in order to study some Advanced subjects.
- All offers will be conditional on final GCSE results.
- Subject choice discussion with a senior member of staff to ensure there is an appropriate full time curriculum available. Students are not admitted on a part-time basis.
Oversubscription Criteria Y12
- Where a student has a sibling* attending Fort Pitt at the time of application.(*Natural sister, step-sister, fostered or adopted child. In each case, where this child also lives in the same household).
- Student attending a school in the Chatham Consortium
- Nearness of home to school, using the shortest, safe walking distance, measured by the Medway Council Geographical Information System
