Welcome to the Fort Pitt Grammar School Website
We hope you find it interesting and informative.
Our school is situated in Chatham at the top of Fort Pitt Hill with commanding views of the River Medway. The schools’ site and buildings are an interesting mix of traditional and modern and in many ways that sums up our school.
We are anxious to preserve and celebrate our traditions whilst ensuring we are very firmly focused on the future. The school site has housed a fort, hence its name, parts of the ramparts are still visible, it was a military hospital visited twice by Queen Victoria and it was the first Army Medical School established by Florence Nightingale in 1860. Prior to being a school it was a hospital and recuperation facility for servicemen in the two World Wars.
Fort Pitt Grammar School is a selective girls’ school of approximately 800 pupils. Entry to the school is by testing. Tests are administered by Medway LEA for students in primary school and either by the LEA (up to Year 9) or by the school (Year 10+)for students moving into the area.
At sixth form level there are different entry requirements and these can be obtained from the school. From September 2004 we introduced an accelerated Key Stage 3 curriculum which means our students take their public examinations a year in advance of other schools.
We are an innovative school and have a very clear vision of what we want to achieve and this we aim to do through our four “excellences”: excellent appearance (uniform and behaviour), academic excellence (teaching and learning), excellent environment (school building and grounds), excellent community (school, local, global). High standards are expected throughout the school.
Wehave recently been visited by Ofsted and are delighted to report that we have been graded as outstanding. To see the full report please click HERE.
The Website should provide further information on most sections of school life, however if you have any questions please do contact us direct.
